SUMMARY:Annual Public Lecture: "Memories of Barrie: Learning from the Work and Contributions of Dr. Barrie deVeber"
DESCRIPTION:The deVeber Institute for Bioethics and Social Research cordially invites you to its Annual Public Lecture (free admission)\, which will take place on Thursday\, October 24th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.\, at the Bahen Centre for Information Technology\, in room 1180. The Bahen Centre is located at 40 St. George St. (Toronto\, ON M5S 2E4). \nThe lecture is titled “Memories of Barrie: Learning from the Work and Contributions of Dr. Barrie deVeber”. It will commemorate the deVeber Institute’s co-founder and first President\, Dr. Barrie deVeber\, who passed away earlier this year. Dr. Barrie deVeber was a physician\, children’s palliative care pioneer\, and professor at the University of Western Ontario. He was also incredibly dedicated to the defence of the dignity of human life. \nAn impressive lineup of speakers will feature at this year’s lecture. Speakers will give presentations about the life and contributions of Dr. Barrie deVeber\, and will include: \n1. Dr. Gabrielle deVeber — Professor of Paediatrics (University of Toronto)\, Staff Neurologist (The Hospital for Sick Children)\, Senior Scientist Emeritus (SickKids Research Institute); \n2. Dr. Will Johnston — Family Doctor (College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia)\, Past President (Canadian Physicians for Life)\, Chair (Euthanasia Prevention Coalition\, British Columbia); \n3. Dr. Heather Morris — Gynaecologist and Obstetrician\, Ret. (Women’s College Hospital); \n4. SUMMARY:Annual Public Lecture: "Women's Happiness\, Women's Health: The feminist fight against abortion"
DESCRIPTION:The deVeber Institute would like to invite all to our free annual public lecture happening on Thursday\, November 8th\, 2018 at 7pm in the Debates Room of 7 Hart House Circle\, Toronto. This year’s guest lecturer will be Andrea Mrozek\, who will be speaking on the topic “Women’s Happiness\, Women’s Health: The feminist fight against abortion.” \nAndrea is an accomplished writer\, speaker and expert on family and women’s issues. She is the founder of a website and group called ProWomanProLife which advocates that strong\, confident women are pro-woman when they are pro-life and that these are consistent views\, not at odds with each other. A woman’s voice on this issue is crucial\, and gives other young woman a female role model to look up to\, who understands the current culture and climate surrounding the topic. \nBefore becoming the Program Director of the family research pillar of think tank Cardus\, Andrea was Executive Director of Marriage and Family Canada. She frequently comments in national media on matters concerning life issues and other topics\, also writing articles that appear in newspapers throughout the country. Born and raised in Toronto\, Andrea holds a Master of Arts in History from the University of Toronto. \nThe lecture will also mark the release of the revised edition of Complications: Abortion’s Impact on Women\, which will be available for purchase at the venue! Light refreshments will be served. \n
