The deVeber Institute for Bioethics and Social Research cordially invites you to its Annual Public Lecture (free admission), which will take place on Thursday, October 24th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Bahen Centre for Information Technology, in room 1180. The Bahen Centre is located at 40 St. George St. (Toronto, ON M5S 2E4).

The lecture is titled “Memories of Barrie: Learning from the Work and Contributions of Dr. Barrie deVeber”. It will commemorate the deVeber Institute’s co-founder and first President, Dr. Barrie deVeber, who passed away earlier this year. Dr. Barrie deVeber was a physician, children’s palliative care pioneer, and professor at the University of Western Ontario. He was also incredibly dedicated to the defence of the dignity of human life.

An impressive lineup of speakers will feature at this year’s lecture. Speakers will give presentations about the life and contributions of Dr. Barrie deVeber, and will include:

1. Dr. Gabrielle deVeber — Professor of Paediatrics (University of Toronto), Staff Neurologist (The Hospital for Sick Children), Senior Scientist Emeritus (SickKids Research Institute);

2. Dr. Will Johnston — Family Doctor (College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia), Past President (Canadian Physicians for Life), Chair (Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, British Columbia);

3. Dr. Heather Morris — Gynaecologist and Obstetrician, Ret. (Women’s College Hospital);

4. Dr. Ian Gentles — Distinguished Professor of History and Global Studies (Tyndale University College & Seminary), Senior Scholar (Glendon College).
